With a single-day rise of 41,649 new cases, India’s COVID-19 tally climbed to 3,16,13,993 on Saturday, while the death toll due to the viral disease shot up to 4,23,810 with 593 more people succumbing to it, the Union health ministry said. The number of active coronavirus cases in the country registered an increase for the fourth consecutive day, according to the ministry’s data updated at 8 am.
New cases of Coronavirus which were declining in Tamil Nadu for more than two months have started to rise marginally in the last two days. The new cases rose by 100 and reached 1,859 on Thursday. The cases further rose to 1,947 on Friday. Coimbatore, where industries are back to work and Chennai are seeing small clusters that are contributing to the rise in cases.
Thirty-one districts reported new infections in double digits. There were no fresh deaths in 19 districts, the bulletin said. A total of 1,57,074 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. This pushed the cumulative number of specimens examined to 3,71,28,408 till date.
